Announcing the launch of GAPS

The Global Alliance for Preservice Education

You are cordially invited to join a global on-line (e-mail) discussion of key issues affecting the education of nursing, medical, midwifery and other health professions students in low resource settings around the world.

Joining the community is simple and registration will take less than 5 minutes.  If you are new to the IBP Knowledge Gateway, just click on the link at the top right corner of this message in order to join the Global Alliance for Preservice Education Community Website.  Shortly thereafter, you will begin to receive e-mail messages related to a variety of intriguing and critical topics.

If you are already a member of another Community of Practice on

the IBP Knowledge Gateway, click "login."

The Capacity Project, in collaboration with the World Health Organization/ Implementing Best Practices network will begin by moderating a discussion of the applicability and realities associated with developing internationally accepted core competencies in family planning.

You may find this community to be valuable if you are:

-  an instructor of health professions students in the developing world.

-  a service provider responsible for supporting students in your facility.

-  a health professions instructor with expertise and resources that you would like to share.

-  a member of a professional association with expertise and resources that you would like to share.

-  working for an agency supporting the development of human resources for health.

Your active participation in this safe and open platform will allow us to hear the voices of those fully committed to the development of new health care practitioners in the regions where  they are most urgently needed.

Three forums held over the next several months will lead to the development of a competency-based family planning toolkit for preservice educators. These forums will include:

-  a general discussion of family planning competencies and competency based training principles.

-  a structured group analysis of existing family planning competencies.

-  an exchange of challenges and best practices associated with teaching to priority competencies.

As this essential discussion evolves, you will be invited to share and access valuable resources within the community’s growing library.
