This community has the objective to share, update and develop pre-service education content compatible with a public health approach for HIV, TB, Malaria, Child Health and Sexual & Reproductive Health, based on the IMCI-IMAI framework and supporting the Stop TB Strategy. A collaborative network was established in April 2009 at the Addis Ababa international working meeting on Pre-service content. The overall objective of the collaborative network is to develop and update pre-service education materials focused on HIV, TB, malaria, child health, sexual & reproductive health and other key related interventions which are compatible with a public health approach to scaling up and decentralizing services. The goal of the project is to provide competency based learning with appropriate methods so that health care workers are able provide quality patient care within a public health approach in resource limited setting upon graduation. Background logic: Countries have started using IMAI in-service material for Pre-service training; IMCI has generic pre-service material and extensive experience of integration in pre-service education; There is urgent need for tools to integrate HIV, TB, malaria, child health, sexual and reproductive health, other key related issues into curricula of different cadres; Generic material should be compatible with public health approach, competency based, easily adaptable; Collaboration is needed to develop, update and share content and corresponding material.
The Competency Assessment Community is a small sub-working group of the Preservice Education for HIV,TB, Malaria, Child Health and SRH Community established by WHO and partners. The Competency Assessment Community is intended to provide a small working space for health professionals and educators interested in improving the assessment of the knowledge, skills and attitudes associated with improved health care.
